The list also included five physician specialist roles: OB-GYNs, anesthesiologists, and surgeons tied for No. 17, pediatricians landed at No. 22 and psychiatrists were ranked 34th on the list. To create the list, U.S. News & World Report examined seven specific factors for each occupation: Median salary Employment rate 10-year growth volume 10-year growth percentage Future job prospects Stress level Work-life balance Jobs receive a score up to 10, 10 being best or most desirable, for each factor, and are ranked by their composite scores. Below are some of the scores the job of physician received in different categories: Median salary: 10 Employment rate: 10 Stress level: 2 Work-life balance: 6 U.S. News determined that a high median salary and high employment rate outweigh a high stress level and average level of work-life balance.
