TouroCOM opens new school in Great Falls, Montana

The new campus is Touro University’s third college of osteopathic medicine and the first nonprofit medical school in Montana.

Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) recently opened an additional location in Great Falls, Montana, the school’s third college of osteopathic medicine and sixth medical school. The TouroCOM-Great Falls campus is the first nonprofit medical school to open in Montana.

The state of Montana is facing a health care crisis. Eleven of the 56 counties in the state lack a practicing physician, while 52 counties identified as areas with health professional shortages, according to a statement by Touro University. The school’s new college of osteopathic medicine will “help address Montana’s and the nation’s health care crisis and physician shortage by educating and retaining health care professionals in the state and providing needed care to rural and tribal populations,” the statement read.

President of Touro University Alan Kadish, MD, cut the ceremonial ribbon on TouroCOM-Great Falls on Aug. 7, 2023. He was joined by founding campus dean Elizabeth Palmarozzi, DO, executive dean Kenneth J. Steier, DO, and Montana Governor Greg Gianforte. The ribbon cutting followed the white coat ceremony.

“One of the core pillars of our Touro University mission is to support underserved communities and the opening of TouroCOM in Great Falls represents a further expression of that,” said Dr. Kadish. “We are eager to train the next generation of health care providers and offer much-needed medical care to Great Falls and the greater Montana community.”

The TouroCOM-Great Falls campus is a 100,000 square foot building that features state-of-the-art labs, a simulation lab and a kosher cafeteria. The school will host up to 125 students and 60 faculty in its inaugural year, and up to 500 medical students at full capacity.
