Over the past year, the AOA has formed new collaborations and forged ahead in areas like research, advocacy and awareness.

One year after the historic decision to enter into a single accreditation system with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, AOA Chief Executive Officer Adrienne White-Faines, MPA, lauded the profession’s resilience and progress toward ambitious goals.

In her remarks to the House of Delegates Friday morning, White-Faines detailed the year’s achievements, including the upcoming launch of a brand campaign to boost awareness of osteopathic medicine, greater emphasis on research, growing osteopathic graduate medical education, and federal and state advocacy victories.

AOA CEO Adrienne White-Faines, MPH, speaks before the House of Delegates during the Annual Business Meeting Friday morning.

Osteopathic medicine is attracting increased interest from health systems, corporations and other organizations who want to partner with the profession’s “incredible, mission-driven, big-hearted physicians,” White-Faines said.

In one new collaboration, osteopathic medical students and DOs are volunteering to serve as counselors and medical personnel at summer camps run by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. That’s the kind of extraordinary care that characterizes the osteopathic medical profession, White-Faines concluded: “Our time is here. Our time is now. Together, we have made and will continue to make a tremendous impact.”

It is time that the AOA begins a true holistic approach to health care that puts us above and beyond other (so called) health care advocates. One simple change in treatment plans that has a positive effect on 14 of the top 15 killers without the use of drugs or surgery….Let’s begin to promote a plant based diet. Plain, simple, cheap, and healthy for us and our planet.
