Below, learn more about the appointment of Jerry Balentine, DO, as the new president of New York Institute of Technology following his decades of service to medical education, and see the AOA’s new illuminated building sign in Chicago. NYIT appoints Jerry Balentine, DO, as new president New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) has appointed Jerry Balentine, DO, as its fifth president, marking a proud moment for both the university and the osteopathic medical community. Dr. Balentine, an accomplished physician, educator and nationally recognized leader in emergency medicine, brings decades of experience to his new role and has been a vital part of NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) for over 20 years as an adjunct faculty member and senior leader. Prior to his work at NYIT, Dr. Balentine served as chief medical officer and executive vice president at St. Barnabas Hospital and Healthcare System in the Bronx, New York, in addition to his roles as hospital medical director, emergency department director and residency director. Jerry Balentine, DO An accomplished author and editor, Dr. Balentine has contributed to countless textbook chapters and online medical resources. He is a medical author and editor for the WebMD network and a previous editorial advisory board member and contributor to The DO. His research explores ways to enhance the patient and student experience, including empathy-building, reducing burnout and injury prevention. “It is an honor to serve as the new president of New York Institute of Technology,” Dr. Balentine said. “Choosing an osteopathic physician as the leader of a large research university reflects all the work done by the great alumni of our medical school and the incredible impact osteopathic physicians are having across the country. Our university is home to a vibrant community of innovators, creators, healers and leaders, including our students, faculty, staff and alumni.” New AOA building sign lights up headquarters The AOA building's new sign lights up the night. The AOA has recently upgraded its building sign to a light-up image of the AOA logo. The illuminated sign adds a striking visual presence to the building’s exterior and will serve as a recognizable landmark for the organization and the osteopathic medical profession. In accordance with City of Chicago regulations, the sign’s lighting will rotate colors to mark holidays and special observances, offering a dynamic and welcoming display throughout the year. This project was brought to completion thanks to the steady leadership of AOA Chief Financial Officer Dennis Rizzo, who guided the effort from start to finish using funds from the Ann Wittner Trust.
