Applications for the AOA’s 2026-2027 TIPS program now being accepted

Participants will gain experience in writing policy briefs, white papers, oral testimony and more. Apply by June 14.

Applications for the AOA’s 2026-2027 Training in Policy Studies (TIPS) cohort are now being accepted. The TIPS Program is a policy-based program that provides fellows with an understanding of current health care policy issues while also facilitating leadership opportunities. The program is funded by the American Osteopathic Foundation and it serves as an initial leadership and policy program for residents wishing to become more active within the osteopathic medical profession.

TIPS sessions have focused on foundations of the U.S. healthcare system, physician payment, drug pricing, social determinants of health, the opioid epidemic and current public health issues. Participants will gain experience in writing policy briefs, white papers, oral testimony and more.

The program is comprised of eight meetings, with the first taking place Oct. 22-25, 2026, at OMED in Las Vegas.

Online applications for the 2026-2027 TIPS cohort are being accepted through Sunday, June 14, 2026. A completed application should include the following items:

  • An updated resume or CV uploaded to the application page
  • A 250-500 word statement of purpose explaining why you hope to join the program
  • A writing sample
  • recommendation form completed by a reference who is familiar with your interest and/or involvement in policy

Decisions are typically issued by late June. While not necessary during the application process, selected candidates must become AOA members at the resident level by Sept. 1, 2026, in order to participate.
