Applications for the AOA’s 2025-2026 Training in Policy Studies (TIPS) cohort are now being accepted. The TIPS program is a policy-based program that provides fellows with an understanding of current health care policy issues while also facilitating leadership opportunities. It serves as an initial leadership and policy program for residents wishing to become more active within the osteopathic profession.

This cycle, TIPS sessions will focus on physician payment models, health care reform, social determinants of health, the opioid epidemic and current public health issues. Participants will gain experience in writing policy briefs and white papers, providing oral testimony and more. Fellows will attend meetings led by experts, engage in interactive training and attend events that provide leadership and networking opportunities.

The program is comprised of eight meetings, with the first taking place September 25-28, 2025, at OMED in Nashville, Tennessee. Please review the program agenda for an overview of the topics and activities covered by the program.

Online applications for the 2025-2026 TIPS cohort must be completed by 11:59 p.m. CT on Sunday, June 15, 2025. A completed application should include the following items:

  • An updated resume or CV uploaded to the application page
  • A 250-500 word statement of purpose explaining why you hope to join the program
  • A writing sample
  • recommendation form completed by a reference who is familiar with your interest and/or involvement in policy

Decisions will be issued by late June. While not necessary during the application process, selected candidates must become AOA members at the resident level by Sept. 1, 2025, in order to participate.

For more information or to apply for the cohort, please visit the TIPS Program webpage.
