As the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continues to spread domestically and abroad, the AOA’s top priority remains supporting the needs of DOs and osteopathic medical students.

Physician shares frontline experiences treating COVID-19 patients with OMM in on-demand CME activity

The AOA and American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) are partnering to offer an online learning activity with first-hand accounts from the frontlines. Hugh M. Ettlinger, DO and OMM residency director at Saint Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York, shares surprising insights from treating COVID-19 patients with osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM).

Participants can earn 0.75 AOA 1-B credit or 0.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Enroll here. Note: Any close patient contact should strictly adhere to the current CDC guidance. The AOA and AAO do not support or condone any unsafe practice of OMM without proper PPE.

Upcoming webinar on COVID-19 and smoking

The AOA has partnered with the CDC Office on Smoking and Health on its Tips from Former Smokers Campaign to host a webinar about COVID-19 risks associated with smoking. The free webinar is at 12:30 p.m. ET on Monday, May 18 and offers 1 CME credit. To register, visit AOA Online Learning.

CMS & HHS updates

The AOA has compiled a digest of the latest updates from CMS this week, which include: the provider relief fund attestation deadline extension, updated COVID-19 fact sheets, modified COVID-19 laboratory test ordering requirements, a new video FAQ for telehealth payment, and a new Medicaid & CHIP COVID-19 FAQ for state Medicaid and CHIP agencies.

AOA Telemedicine Guide update

The COVID-19 pandemic has spurred the need for telemedicine. To help physicians with this transition, we have updated our Telemedicine Guide, which now includes the latest guidance from CMS and private payers, including the latest billing codes and guidance on acceptable telehealth platforms.
