CMS opens review and dispute period for Open Payments data

Physicians have until May 15 to review and submit any changes to their 2015 Open Payments data before its release to the public.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) opened its 45-day Open Payments review and dispute period for 2015 data. The review period will close Sunday, May 15, 2016.

The Open Payments program is required by law to collect information about transfers of value, such as stocks, money for research, gifts, speaking fees, meals and other payments, from a drug or device company to a physician or a teaching hospital.

During the review period, which opened April 1, physicians can review their Open Payments data to see any payments drug or device companies say they made to them. Physicians can dispute incorrect data and give drug or device companies the chance to fix the data before CMS releases to the public the 2015 payment data. CMS also will release updates to the 2013 and 2014 data.
