AOiA launches Emerging DO Platform The AOiA has launched the first phase of beta testing for the all-new Emerging DO Platform, a digital space designed to foster connection, lifelong learning and osteopathic identity across all stages of a physician’s career. Built in partnership with 11 collaborators, the platform was created with direct input across the osteopathic medical profession. These collaborators are now helping to refine the platform’s features and recruit participants for testing to ensure that the final product reflects the needs of the osteopathic community it is designed to serve. The first beta phase, now underway, focuses on the flagship tools: Insights: The platform will collect validated feedback from DOs who have recently completed residency. These firsthand accounts will be displayed alongside moderated discussions, providing a living library of peer experiences that newer DOs can draw from as they navigate early-career challenges. Mentorship: Connecting students and physicians to one-on-one matches and mentorship groups, this tool will make it easier to find the right fit for all participants based on needs, availability and interests. By combining shared experiences, mentorship and educational resources, the Emerging DO Platform aims to strengthen osteopathic culture while equipping members to transform the future of healthcare. Additional features and the official launch of the platform is expected this fall. Those interested in supporting beta testing efforts can contact [email protected]. Any additional questions about the platform should be directed to Carrie Simon, manager of the platform, at [email protected]. Veronica Nkie, DO, MPH Veronica Nkie, DO, MPH, featured on ACOP’s Pedscast Veronica Nkie, DO, MPH, recently appeared on the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians’ (ACOP) PedsCast in an episode on physician mental health. The episode, released during Mental Health Awareness Month in May, features a firsthand account of Dr. Nkie’s personal experience with physician burnout. During the conversation, she opened up about the pressures of training and service and shared that acknowledging her own limits ultimately strengthened her ability to care for others. Dr. Nkie also published a personal essay on her experience with burnout in The DO earlier this year. The full episode, along with a wide variety of other episodes, is available on the PedsCast webpage. The show is created “by students, for students” with the goal of providing practical advice and peer-to-peer support for aspiring and current osteopathic medical students. Produced by Sammy DeLuca, OMS IV, of A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) and Tam Nguyen, OMS III, of Kansas City University College Osteopathic Medicine – Joplin (KCU-COM Joplin), the podcast covers topics ranging from medical school wellness and nutrition to strategies for maximizing conference experiences.
