To rank hospitals, U.S. News examines factors related to clinical outcomes, staffing and patient satisfaction. You can read more about their methodology here. The survey for the 2021-2022 hospital rankings will be sent to physicians in early 2021. Learn more. Below are U.S. News’ top-rated hospitals in each state for 2020-2021. However, these lists come with the caveat that the data collection period predated the COVID-19 pandemic. U.S. News says it will be updating its methods for next year’s list to examine how the pandemic impacted hospitals’ ability to provide high-quality care. U.S. News did not provide numerical rankings for hospitals in every state. For states that received numerical hospital rankings, we provided the hospitals in the first through third spots. For states without numerical rankings or states that only had a No. 1 hospital or Nos. 1 and 2 hospitals listed, we shared the ranked hospitals alongside the hospitals in the state that received national rankings for the most conditions, procedures and specialties.
