Two programs offer debt relief to physicians. NHSC loan repayment program The NHSC loan repayment program offers loan repayment of up to $50,000 to primary care clinicians in eligible disciplines in exchange for at least two years of service at an NHSC-approved site, located in a designated Health Professional Shortage Area. New: Substance use disorder loan repayment program New in 2019, this program offers up to $75,000 in student loan repayment in exchange for a three-year commitment to provide substance use disorder treatment at an NHSC-approved site. Priority consideration will be given to applicants if they: Have a DATA 2000 waiver; Serve in an opioid treatment program; or Are licensed or certified in substance use disorder interventions.
