Come together DO Day 2018: Join profession by advocating on social media Whether you’ll be in DC next week or at home, you can participate in a Thunderclap on social media to promote education funding. Feb. 28, 2018Wednesday Ashley Altus Contact Ashley Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Email Topics DODay18 This DO Day, students and physicians will take over Capitol Hill to urge Congress to protect medical student access to student loan programs by supporting the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. Reauthorization could ensure medical students have access to funding to finish their medical education, especially if it includes retaining popular programs such as Public Service Loan Forgiveness, Federal Direct Graduate PLUS and Perkins Loans. The nation continues to face a physician workforce shortage, which could be exacerbated by cuts to loan repayment and forgiveness programs. Reauthorization would promote public service, protect future physicians’ access to education and help with the growing physician workforce shortage. Join the movement Even if you can’t make it to Washington, DC, you can still support the movement by sharing the message on social media. Via Thunderclap, the AOA can post a one-time message to your Facebook or Twitter account on March 7 at 9 a.m. ET: Additional reading: #DODay17: Urging Congress to reauthorize teaching health center GME funding #DODay17: Over 1,000 white coats march in Washington Video: DOs take on Capitol Hill to rally Congressional support for GME More in Advocacy AOA statement on HHS dismissal of USPSTF vice chairs The USPSTF plays a critical role in healthcare coverage and access to services, as health plan coverage for preventive services without cost-sharing is directly tied to the recommendations of the task force, the statement notes.
