June 7, 2017Wednesday AOA Staff Contact AOA Staff Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Email The AOA and the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association jointly opposed Oklahoma House Bill 1013, which would have expanded the scope of practice for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses by giving them full practice rights equivalent to physicians and surgeons. It would have eliminated the requirement that they practice pursuant to a collaborative practice agreement with a physician and allowed them to independently establish diagnoses and prescribe medications, including controlled substances, without requiring them to attain a level of education or competency similar to a physician. The bill died upon the adjournment of the legislature on May 26.
