DO earns national award for global health outreach

Stanley E. Grogg, DO, was recently honored for his leadership in caring for medically underserved patients around the world.

Stanley E. Grogg, DO, was recently honored with a special achievement award from the American Academy of Pediatrics for his work in international global health. The Oklahoma chapter of the AAP nominated Dr. Grogg, a professor of pediatrics at the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, for founding and leading the medical mission organization Power of a Nickel.

Along with his wife, Barbara, a family nurse practitioner, Dr. Grogg leads teams of volunteers in treating medically underserved patients around the world. Last year, volunteers traveled to Uganda, Vietnam, India, Nicaragua, Belize, and Mexico to provide care.

In a thank-you note to his colleagues, Dr. Grogg encouraged them to get involved by joining a trip: “I guarantee it will be a life-changing event.” The nonprofit also accepts donations.
