PCOM recognized for its diversity efforts

INSIGHT Into Diversity names PCOM among this year’s Diversity Champion recipients for creating a diverse and inclusive environment.

INSIGHT Into Diversity, a higher education publication, recognized the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) for its commitment to diversity and inclusion throughout its campus and academic programs.

PCOM, which also received the award last year, is among eight colleges and universities in the nation to be named a Diversity Champion.

PCOM’s efforts to cultivate a diverse and inclusive environment on its Philadelphia and Suwanee, Georgia, campuses, include:

  • The creation of the President’s Diversity Council to make recommendations to the president on equity and diversity issues.
  • The implementation of safe zones on campus to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA) students, faculty and staff.
  • The creation of gender-neutral bathrooms and meditation/lactation areas.
  • The launch of a series of lectures and workshops on multicultural issues for the entire PCOM community.

“The recognition of our institution as a champion of diversity highlights the hard work and dedication of individuals across our campuses to make PCOM a truly inclusive environment for all,” said Lisa McBride, PhD, PCOM’s chief diversity officer, in a statement.
