Consider the Midwest region, which has half of the top 10 best states for doctors to live, according to WalletHub’s annual report. To identify the best states for physicians, WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states and Washington, D.C., across 11 key metrics, including physicians’ mean annual wage adjusted for cost of living, number of hospitals per 100,000 residents and medically underserved areas or populations. Analysts then calculated the overall score for each state using the weighted average across all metrics and ranked the states.
