Family affair: Five relatives over two generations are KCU-COM grads

Family medicine physician Michael McClintick, DO, has a daughter, two sons and a daughter-in-law who also attended KCU-COM.

Michael McClintick, DO, grew up in Eureka, Kansas, and has spent more than 30 years practicing family medicine there. But when he graduated from the Kansas City (Missouri) University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCU-COM) in 1975, he had no idea he was establishing a family tradition. Today, five members of his family are DOs who attended KCU-COM.

The KCU magazine recently profiled Dr. McClintick, his wife, Linda, and their four children. Their eldest daughter, Amy Soetaert, DO, is a radiologist who practices in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her brother Scott McClintick, DO, is an otolaryngologist in Joplin, Missouri. Brother Chad McClintick, DO, is an anesthesiologist in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Brother Matt McClintick didn’t attend KCU-COM, but his wife, Lindsey Powers McClintick, DO, did: she’s completing her pediatrics residency in Omaha.

Scott McClintick, DO, says his father was and remains his example. “To this day, I still call him when my kids are sick,” he says. “Dad has dedicated his life to the practice of medicine, and I admire his sacrifice, because I now understand the time and personal commitment it takes to be a great physician. He’s one of the last great small-town doctors, and he is still at it.”
