DO represents the AOA at a White House dialogue on men’s health

The forum addressed ways to engage men in their own health through more coordinated and personal outreach to patients.

Last week, Gregory Pecchia, DO, the AOA’s liaison to the Men’s Health Network, participated in a White House dialogue to discuss strategies in improving health outcomes for men.

Dr. Pecchia, a geriatric medicine specialist in La Quinta, California, and the panel discussed the importance of improving health outcomes for men by looking for new ways to engage men in their own health. Many participants noted the importance of reframing how men perceive their health, with men responding more positively when their health was presented as a matter of providing and caring for their families.

Held in partnership with the Men’s Health Network, the forum featured a wide array of presenters and attendees, including U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, MD; Michael Botticelli, the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy; and a number of health care professionals, men’s health advocates and representatives from several NFL teams.

The Men’s Health Network will release a white paper this spring on best practices informed by this dialogue and from a growing body of information on men’s health. In the meantime, you can view the forum and learn other ways DOs are securing greater visibility on Capitol Hill.
