This campaign—founded by The Obesity Society, the Obesity Action Coalition, Strategies to Overcome and Prevent Obesity Alliance, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery—seeks to ignite a national movement to ensure anyone affected by obesity receives respectful and comprehensive care. According to a recent study in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, nearly 20% of U.S. households are in areas deprived of basic access to food, and those in such “food insecure” households were at least 1.3 times more likely to be obese than those in high-food secure households. As a partner for National Obesity Care Week, the AOA encourages members to access free resources designed to help you address obesity in patients.
