Physicians Practice recently wrote about the qualities millennials are looking for in a workplace, information that may be valuable to physicians.

Members of the millennial generation, defined as those born between roughly 1982 and 2000, are now the generation making up the greatest proportion of the workforce, according to Physicians Practice.

The publication recently outlined several assets millennials bring the workplace, including technological skills and the ability to multitask. In addition, it detailed the qualities millennials are looking for in a workplace, insights physicians and practice managers may find useful as they look to hire staff.

What millennials are looking for at work

  • Updated technology and equipment: Most millennials grew up with technology, and many are used to using newer versions of computers, devices and software programs.
  • A healthy work-life balance: There’s a generational shift in which young people are placing more value in balancing their work lives with the rest of their lives.
  • Transparency: Millennials are used to having 24-7 access to all kinds of information and don’t appreciate when news of important developments that affect them is withheld.
  • Training and professional development opportunities: A recent study found that nearly 80% of millennials said they’d like their boss to be more of a coach or mentor. They’re looking to grow, and want to work for people who are committed to helping them achieve that goal.
