This funding opportunity falls within one of the AOA’s key research areas—osteopathic philosophy. The AOA is placing added emphasis on examining the impact of osteopathic philosophy on physician training, patient health outcomes, quality of care, communication, system utilization and patient satisfaction. Requests for applications include: Cost Effectiveness and Value-Based Care: Request for research studies rooted in the osteopathic philosophy and directly focused on cost effectiveness and value based care. Osteopathic Philosophy and Differences in Communication, Compassion/Empathy or Patient Satisfaction Grant: Request for research studies rooted in the osteopathic philosophy to determine if this distinctive approach to patient care translates into better outcomes compared to other health care providers related to compassion/empathy, patient/physician provider communication or patient satisfaction. “The AOA is committed to helping raise the visibility of the osteopathic medical profession through various methods, including funding research that demonstrates the value DOs and the osteopathic approach to medicine have on patients,” says Kenya D. McRae, the AOA’s vice president of research and development. “We are seeking projects that assess the impact of osteopathic philosophy in health care.” Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.
