George Seese, DO, was fatally shot on Monday in the parking lot of Affinity Medical Center in Massillon, Ohio, where he worked as a cardiologist, according to news reports. The gunman who shot Dr. Seese turned the gun on himself shortly afterward.

After the shooting, both men were taken inside the hospital for treatment, where both later died.

Dr. Seese, 59, attended Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 1987. Following graduation, Dr. Seese completed an internal medicine residency and a cardiology fellowship, according to AOA records.

Dr. Seese had 13 children ages 5 to 32, according to his staff bio on Stark Medical Specialties’ website, which also shares the following info:

“[Dr. Seese’s] main interest outside of the practice is his family … He loves to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He loves sports and is an avid fisherman.

“He feels that his patients are part of his family. He considers it a privilege and honor that they allow him to participate in their heart care.”

way to go government. cut more funding for mental health while maniacs raid the streets. The government no longer supports its people.

Prayers for this man and his family.

I’m not sure giving Kasich more money to waste would have done anything to stop this heinous crime. Please watch your comments.

I am so sorry for the loss felt by his family and friends and patients. We live in a difficult and perplexing time in which things like this happen unexpectedly and with horrific details. May you find peace in grieving actively and remembering the forces of good your father, husband friend and doctor brought to you in his time with us.

So sad. Prayers to his family. Access to guns is far too easy. Need more restrictions. When Congress does nothing, they’re doing a disservice to their constituents.

STOP with the politics!!! It is disingenuous and not the least bit helpful at this time.

God bless this mans family and his children! I cannot imagine the pain they are all going through. My prayers are with his family as well as his staff and patients who also depended on him.

My heart goes out to the children of Dr. Seese. May he rest in peace, and may his children know that they’re loved and cared about by an extended family they haven’t yet met.

The comment about how government should have provided care for the murderer is completely out of line and a totally uninformed statement. Additionally, it was the ACLU that let tens of thousands of mentally ill people onto our streets. This scourge is theirs. A pox on them, and their supporters. Government should have a limited role in our lives, and the ACLU destroyed governments’ ability to do the right thing.

According to the news reports, Dr. Seese was ambushed and never had the chance to defend himself. Carrying a gun wouldn’t have done him any good.

I had the honor of mentoring Dr. Seese when he was a Cardiology Fellow. He will be greatly missed by our profession as an accomplished clinician and especially by all of us who have had the privilege of knowing him as a friend. Our prayers go out for Skip and his family.

Lets not make this a political forum. One of our medical brothers has died in a senseless horrible way. Many prayers for the Seese family. Tell someone in your family that you love them today. Work towards mending a broken relationship. Call someone you lost touch with. Life is short.

It is a sad day when somone so giving is taken by the act of an evil person. My deepest condolences to his family

And to those who feel the need to politicize an evil act… Guns don’t kill people… Evil people kill people. More restrictions is not the answer. If it was, chicago and Washington DC, two of the most restricted states in the u ion would be the safest. They have the highest gun crime rate out there

I had the great privilege of having Dr. Seese as a mentor and friend during medical school and internship. He was a dedicated teacher and a strong proponent of the profession. He will be greatly missed by many.

access to mental and emotional health in the United States is at an all time low.trying to navigate the health care system is severely complex ; and just about impossible involving psychiatric care for those who need it most. When the bottom line is considered first and foremost we as a people and a nation will continue to be plagued by these ridiculous and senseless acts of brutal carnage.carrying a concealed weapon cannot and will not begin to solve the alienation that that even “normal” people experience in this profit motivated society
