Video: What advice would you give to first-year students?

    My advice:
    1) Buy a magic wand and wizard or witch hat for all OMM-related activities.
    2) Learn to fake OMM “treatments” the night before your practicals. Fake it till you make it.
    3) Focus on learning real medicine (i.e. physiology/biochem/anatomy) that will help you on USMLE step 1 in your 2nd year.

    Ian,

As I read that, I became disgusted. I hope that you are a random person who happened to stumble upon this article by hitting some sort of random button on a google search bar and not an osteopathic physician or medical student.

If this is the attitude that you have, please help yourself to remove the letters DO after your name and go into an MD school to feel like a “real doctor.”

Even as a medical student who in interested in specializing in internal medicine and not OMM, I still feel like saying “real medicine,” you do not deserve to be anywhere around the letters DO.

Many “religions” want to banish or do worse to their perceived heretics. Anthony, shall we prepare a bonfire or gallows or maybe a rack for Ian. Or maybe you should read the study highlighted here (http://thedo.osteopathic.org/?p=156791) about OMT having the same outcomes as sham treatments. I can only presume you would be in the group that feels the results of the study reflect a need for a better study and not the simple truth it demonstrates.

P.S. Ian, oh yee of little faith. A witch hat or wand is not necessary. Just keep up what you are doing as we did 30 years ago. You’ll pass and move on into the real world of medical science and training. Bow at the alter of OMT and move along, there is nothing to see here young man.
