Physicians can challenge Open Payments records until end of year

Open Payments data from 2015 is already public, but you can still review and dispute records in the Open Payments system until Dec. 31, 2016.

Even if you don’t think there’s information about you in the Open Payments system, it’s a good idea to check for it every year. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services published Open Payments data from 2015 this year after a review period, but physicians can still review and challenge newly posted material until Dec. 31, 2016.

Older data from years past is sometimes provided to Open Payments by drug companies and device companies later on. Although that data is old, if it is the first time it has been published, you still have until the end of the year to review and dispute it. If you see any inaccuracies, you’ll want to dispute them quickly. Doing so will let drug and device companies know that you disagree with their records and give you a chance to resolve the dispute.

If you need help with the data review and dispute process, or have any questions about how Open Payments works, you can email the CMS Open Payments Help Desk at openpayments@cms.hhs.gov. You can also call Help Desk Support at 1-855-326-8366. Find step-by-step guides, including the review and dispute guide, and more information at CMS’ Open Payments webpage.
